Ewa Wysocka - Psychological and social
correlates of social helplessness
The core aim of the article is to present fundamental theoretical issues
concerning: psychological and social mechanisms of helplessness.. These
mechanisms are assumed to be a source for atypical social functioning in young
people whose social as well as occupational situation varies. The research
project focused on students and other young people who continuously experience
everyday frustration within the realisation of their occupational role. The
source of frustration appears to be their inability to procure any occupation
within a couple of years after graduation and particularly not one in the field
of their specialisation, or one to suit their personal preferences. The research
verifies a few hypotheses concerning variation of functioning of both groups
mentioned earlier within the following areas: level and dimension of crisis of
valuation, strategies in shaping up in everyday situations (passive strategies
without control and with learned helplessness vs. active strategies concerning
wielding control and the feeling of perpetration), and the attitude towards
oneself and the surrounding world as a consequence of varies life experiences.
The results achieved from this research allow the following conclusion to be
reached: unstabilised occupational situation highly influences a much stronger
feeling of crisis in valuation (the feeling of lack of self-realisation as well
as lost of the feeling of high self-esteem) and a choice of destructive
strategies of shaping up with life problems, which in consequence forms those
life style approaches which disintegrate one’s growth of personality.
Joanna Szymanowska - Social occupation a chance for
people facing life standards below acceptable norms?
Less then acceptable life standards have recently become one of the most
important and talked about issues facing the average family. Social occupation
has recently been regarded as the main remedy for this problem. The article
presents an attempt to show the possibilities of carrier and public
reintegration for people otherwise excluded from such services provided by the
centers of public integration.
Halina Sobocka-Szczapa - The gap in
qualifications of the employees of voivodship and poviat unemployment agencies
This elaboration presents studies, that refer to the gap in
qualifications of the employees of voivodship and poviat unemployment agencies.
They are a category of workers, who have contact with people looking for a job
as well as with employers particularly often. So the quality of their
qualifications and skills, seems to be very important for the efficiency of
activities that they realize within the labour market policy.
Jarosław Poteraj - Pension system in Netherlands
The article presents an insight into the old age pension system in The
Netherlands. The introduction is followed by four topic paragraphs: the
historical development of its pension system, the present situation and
challenges and foreseen changes. There, the author’s goal was to present both
past and present solutions employed by the Dutch’s pension system, in search for
ideas worth consideration in international comparisons. In the summary, the
author highlights as a particular Dutch approach the voluntary participation in
the huge part of additional subsystems of fully fund scheme and existing of the
live cycle saving plan.
Marta Otto - Standard of the legal protection of
employees against sexual harassment in USA
The phenomenon of sexual harassment has been identified for the first time on
legal field in 70s in the USA. An interest in this problem turned up in Europe
almost 20 years later (in the mid - 90s). In Poland the legal definition of
sexual harassment has been brought by the amendment of labour code from 14
November 2003. However there is still lack of regulations in Polish legislation,
comprehensively and coherently regulating the described phenomenon and still
harassment seems to be treated by the society as a taboo. A purpose of this
article is a presentation of few known in Poland American solutions. In author’s
opinion they can be helpful pattern in working out the model of legal protection
of employees against sexual harassment in our country.
